Benicia Main Street 501c3 Non Profit established in 1987 to preserve the heritage of historic downtown Benicia, to promote economic prosperity, and to restore the downtown’s identity as the viable town center according to the Main Street Program’s four-point approach to revitalization.
Developed in 1978 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Main Street Program now boasts over 800 participating cities nationwide. In 1987 Benicia was chosen to be one of the fifteen cities to participate in the California Main Street Program. Selection was based on the commitment expressed by the City, downtown businesses, property owners, and residents to support this program.
Since its inception, Benicia Main Street has committed its resources to support the vitality and charm of our downtown. Throughout the year Benicia Main Street invites locals & visitors to enjoy the array of family-friendly events and celebrations. From the revelry of the 3rd & 4th of July Parade, Picnic in the Park & Fireworks, to the Fine Art & Jazz Festival, Halloween festivities, Holiday Open House, Christmas Parade, the weekly Certified Farmers Market, and exciting retail promotions, Downtown Benicia provides an enchanting backdrop for these and other numerous community gatherings.
In addition to events & promotions, the commitment of Benicia Main Street extends to design, that enhances the visual quality of the downtown and economic development that supports a diverse business mix. All of these components are integrated to create a positive, identifiable and inviting image for Downtown Benicia.
