With the Government of India's endeavor to promote the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), driven by Niti Aayog was established. The intent of AIM is to support the establishment of new grassroots-level organizations, with the help of different academic and corporate stakeholders. Under its aegis, AIM established Atal Tinkering labs, to promote innovation among students in the schools, and Atal Incubation Centres, to promote entrepreneurship among budding innovators across the country.
Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) was selected as Atal Incubation Centre- BIMTECH (AIC-BIMTECH), from the first batch of AICs in 2017, for turning the vision of Atal Innovation Mission into reality. The institute was one of the ten selections out of the 3658 first-round applicants.
