Lei Garden was founded in 1973 in Hong Kong by Guangdong native Chan Shu Kit, the son of a Kuomintang general. Since then, it has grown into one of the largest Cantonese restaurant groups in Asia, with 25 restaurants across Hong Kong, mainland China, Singapore and Macau, employing more than 2,000 people. Lei Garden is one of the most recognized restaurant brands in the region, with a loyal following that includes celebrities, food critics and Chinese food aficionados. Founder and Chairman, Chan Shu Kit, is dedicated to delivering a seamless Cantonese dining experience, based on four main tenets: efficient and attentive service, elegant design, superior quality of produce and ingredients, and innovative gastronomy. Responding to changing times and trends, the Group champions culinary innovation and has created more than 1,000 new dishes and recipes over the past 40 years. These include the invention of the iconic XO sauce in 1981 - now an essential condiment in Cantonese cooking, and the world-famous dessert, Chilled Mango Pudding with Grape Fruit and Sago in 1987. Lei Garden’s ultimate goal is to make its nutritious, gourmet cuisine accessible to a wider demographic. In addition to opening new restaurants in major cities across Asia, the Group launched the new dining concept ‘Lei Bistro’ in 2010. With its first location at Times Square in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, ‘Lei Bistro’ is a stylish and contemporary diner specializing in high quality and healthy Cantonese and northern Chinese cuisines. After consulting leading agricultural experts from several universities, the group is establishing its own 300-acre farm in Zhanjiang, China to provide its guests with a true ‘farm to table’ offer. This farm-to-table vision will allow full control over sourcing of ingredients, supplying the Group with hygienic, safe and high quality pork, poultry and vegetables. These products will be processed at a new facility in Tai Po Industrial Estate, Hong Kong to enhance quality assurance. The Lei Garden Restaurant Group is also set to expand into the packaged food market, both locally and overseas, taking its nutritious, gourmet offerings straight into people’s homes.
