INSPIRING AND EDUCATING THE NEXT GENERATION OF JEWISH LEADERS
When MEOR began in 2006, we could hardly have imagined that just six years later, approximately 4,000 students on 21 leading U.S. college campuses would be engaged in innovative and sophisticated Jewish learning. MEOR is demonstrating that students not only want to learn at a level commensurate with their intellect and maturity, they will spread the light of that learning to their friends, families and communities.
Jewish learning is key to igniting the spark that lies within each of us, yet for too many of our young people, learning about Jewish teachings, wisdom and tradition stops at age 12 or 13. By the time students are confronted with adult choices and challenges, they often doubt that Judaism can respond to their most profound questions. Who am I? Why am I here? What is my unique purpose? MEOR teaches students that answers can indeed be found within Jewish tradition and texts to enhance every aspect of their lives.
MEOR makes exploration of Jewish knowledge meaningful, relevant and fun. It is meaningful because our dedicated rabbis and educators customize classes to the particular interests and characteristics of students on each campus. It is relevant because MEOR connects ancient wisdom to contemporary issues and lives. And very importantly, it is fun because MEOR challenges students intellectually and provides social and travel experiences that add joy and excitement both on campus and in Israel.
