The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center is regarded as one of the Department of Defense’s finest schools for foreign language instruction. As part of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, the Institute provides resident instruction for military service members at the Presidio of Monterey in more than a dozen languages, five days a week, seven hours per day, with two to three hours of homework each night. Courses last between 36 and 64 weeks, depending on the difficulty of the language. Admission is not open for civilians. Military service members who wish to attend need to contact their branch manager.
