In 1966 the South Korean government decided to establish KOTRA, an agency designed not only to help Korean business but bilateral trade through its overseas offices. Amsterdam was appointed to have the first KOTRA office in Europe as a token of appreciation for their help but also because Korea recognized the importance of the Netherlands in the World economy.
Like Korea, the Netherlands too is a geographically small country in between powerhouses but it managed to become a key player and partner. Many times Koreans looked at the Netherlands, visited it, studied it and learned from it proving the legitimacy of the choice to start KOTRA’s European activities in Amsterdam.
In the more than 40 years following, KOTRA Amsterdam has helped many Dutch and Korean companies doing business with each other, both in the Netherlands as well as in Korea. KOTRA is committed to promoting mutual prosperity between Korea and its trading partners by facilitating international trade and investment.
