Advocates for the West is a nonprofit, public interest environmental law firm headquartered in Boise, Idaho with an office in Portland, Oregon.
We provide free legal services to conservation groups and activists fighting to protect public lands, fish and wildlife, clean water and clean air in the West. Our attorneys are experts in public lands and federal environmental laws, and are skilled at bringing ecology and science into the courtroom to defend our treasured western landscapes.
Founder and Executive Director Laird Lucas, a 1986 Yale Law graduate, supervises all litigation work and programs. Our litigation team of eight fulltime attorneys includes two senior attorneys and five staff attorneys, supported by three communications, operations, and fund development staff. We also work with pro bono attorneys, scientists and field experts on many cases.
Advocates for the West’s mission is to win for the West. Since 2003, we have done just that — amassing a record of winning (or favorably settling) 85% of the many dozens of federal cases we have brought.
