Our Journey Managing airways and training anesthesia providers in low-resource settings presents unique challenges. Dr. Runnels faced these challenges firsthand during his time in Africa, where he managed difficult airways with local anesthesia providers. In developed countries, fiber optic intubation is the gold standard for managing difficult airways, but it's impractical in low-resource settings due to cost and fragility. Dr. Runnels, having gained experience in this area, is now exploring better ways to manage difficult airways in such settings.
