JAMMS is a collective management organization that negotiates and collects license fees on behalf of record companies & record producers for specific uses of their music.
Under Copyright & Related Rights Laws, the owners of master recordings have the exclusive rights to broadcast and otherwise communicate their music to the public.
JAMMS issues licenses and collects from individuals and businesses who use music or need to use music in the following ways:
1. Media:radio broadcasts, webcasting, television broadcasts, cable, satellite radio
2. Public Performance: music at events-parties, clubs, festivals, round robins, banquets, staff parties and other music sites such as bars, restaurants, banks, supermarkets, hotels, pharmacies, retail stores and gyms.
If you play or intend to play recorded music in your business or at any activity or event,you need copyright clearance from the record producers/record companies and in Jamaica, that authority lies with JAMMS.
