The Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy is responsible for the training needs of law enforcement agencies across Central Virginia and is one of the eleven regional academies in Virginia. Founded in 1978, the academy is responsible for the training over 2,200 sworn personnel representing 19 Police Departments, 16 Sheriff’s Offices, 4 Regional Jails, and 3 Independent Emergency Communication Centers. Academy oversight is provided by the Academy Board of Directors, made up of member agency chief executive officers, with day-to-day management designated to the Executive Director. The academy operates with a staff of eleven employees and depends on adjunct instructors from the member agencies to deliver Virginia mandated training to our sworn law enforcement, jail and communications personnel.
