Aravali Power Company Pvt. Limited (APCPL) is a Joint Venture company of NTPC Limited, Haryana Power Generation Company Limited (HPGCL) and Indraprastha Power Generation Company Ltd (IPGCL). NTPC Limited holds 50% equity stake in the company while HPGCL holds 25% and IPGCL holds the remaining 25%. The company was registered on 21st Dec 2006.
Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project (IGSTPP) is APCPL’s first Coal based thermal power project and falls under the Mega Power Project Category. This Greenfield project is in the village Jharli of district Jhajjar in Haryana. Spread across 2191 acres, the first stage of IGSTPP has built-in capacity of 3x500 MW and, currently, all the three units are under commercial operation. First unit was commissioned on 31st October 2010 in 39 months from the date of investment approval. This is the best achieved target for a green field project from the date of Investment approval. Second unit was commissioned on 5thNovember 2011 and the third unit on 7th November 2012. Commercial operation declaration of first and second unit was done on 5th March 2011 and 21st February 2012 respectively. Third unit is ready for commercial operation. There is a provision of 2x660 MW in the Stage-II of this project.
This project has bagged Greentech Environment Award 2012 for outstanding achievement in Environment Management. The project has also bagged the Swarn Shakti Award from NTPC Ltd for Best Performance in the area of Project Management (Greenfield Thermal) for year 2010-11.
