Founded in 2005, Barrett Design LLC combines real estate development and architecture under one roof to form a company that is uniquely versatile and responsive. The firm has a strategic partnership with Lindsay Barrett of Compass, who handles all sales and marketing of their completed properties. The firm began with the belief that good design and successful real estate development are not mutually exclusive, but actually complimentary. The firm has brought this idea to bear on the neighborhoods of “brownstone Brooklyn,” with their low density, historic row-house architecture, and tree-lined streets. New development in these areas is limited by zoning, landmark restrictions and a lack of developable parcels, and quality design is scarce. Barrett Design applies their contextual design sensibility to underutilized properties in an effort to create unique homes, in buildings that contribute to their surroundings. All of the firm’s completed projects are in the Brooklyn, and they have just acquired their first Manhattan development site. The firm seeks projects that are distinctive and architecturally challenging – either possessing existing historic character to be restored, or opportunities for creative, modern design interventions.
