Harris and Kjisik’s office has a reputation as one of the most innovative and influential architectural and urban design practices in Finland, with a large proportion of commissions resulting from competition successes.
The office is strongly committed to furthering sustainable development principles in their work as well as user participation in the planning process.
New build projects currently underway include a large new hospital in Helsinki, state financed housing, a new tourist centre adjoining the Koli national park and planning for the creation of Hämeenlinna’s new Regional hospital with AW2. Of their completed new-build and restoration work the most significant have been a Transport Interchange in Jyväskylä, various schools in the Helsinki area and a building maintenance depot on the historic island fortress of Suomenlinna, a UNESCO‘s World Heritage site, the last stage just starting on site.
Work of the office has been exhibited and published both in Finland and abroad, most recently in the 2004 and 2006 Venice Biennale. The founding partners received the State Award for Architecture in 2018.
