Because Chow Hound is local, we partner with many West Michigan pet related charities that help dogs, cats, and small animals find homes. We offer space for cats (and some rabbits) for adoption from the Humane Societies of West Michigan, Ottawa Shores and Muskegon at all 9 stores. It’s part of giving back to the community we grew up and still live in. Brothers Greg and Tyson Keane grew up in Wyoming, Michigan as avid pet lovers. In 1988 they learned about a new type of store that sold mostly pet food and supplies instead of the traditional “pet shop”. They opened their first Chow Hound store in 1989. It was the first store in West Michigan to concentrate on a large selection of premium pet food and supplies not found in grocery stores. They also provide pet owners with advice and guidance to help enhance the pet parent experience. They now have nine West Michigan Chow Hound locations in Grand Rapids, Holland, Grand Haven, Standale, Wyoming, and Jenison.
