Wits RHI is one of the largest research institutes of the University of the Witwatersrand.
Our Vision:
Tackling Africa's health challenges through science and innovation.
Our Mission:
As a renowned African institute in a world class African university, Wits RHI addresses some of the greatest public health concerns affecting our region, including HIV and its related problems, sexual and reproductive health, and vaccinology.
Our strength lies in our multidisciplinary and holistic approach. We identify health problems through sound epidemiological methods and qualitative research, use a range of analytic and research methods to generate evidence, then test and evaluate interventions in a real-world setting. We furthermore provide technical assistance, advocacy and capacity building to ensure effective implementation, and finally translate evidence into policy.
Our portfolio spans the following focus areas:
• HIV (Care, Treatment Implementation & Prevention)
• Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH)
• Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPDs)
Much of our work is with populations that are most in need, marginalised, or hard-to-reach:
• Women;
• Pregnant women and mother and infant pairs;
• Adolescents (including young men, and young women and girls);
• Adults and children and those with TB; and
• Key populations
Wits RHI works across all of South Africa's nine provinces. Our head office is located within the Hillbrow Health Precinct (HHP).
