The College’s authority comes from the Social Workers Act. We are governed by a twelve-member Board, composed of eight elected social work members and four members appointed by the provincial government. The College’s Registrar directs day-to-day operations.
Some of the duties of BCCSW are:
o to maintain the Public Registry of every registrant and former registrant of the College
o to establish the qualifications required for registration as a registrant
o to establish and employ registration, inquiry and discipline practices which are transparent, objective, impartial and fair
o to establish, monitor and enforce standards of practice and ethical standards to enhance the quality of practice
o to establish and maintain a continuing competence program to promote high practice standards amongst registrants
o to receive and investigate complaints against registrants and to deal with issues of discipline
