We are responsible for preventing disease and improving the health of people in Tāmaki Makaurau and Te Tai Tokerau. Our staff investigate infectious disease notifications and advise health professionals, schools and preschools and the public on limiting any spread. We protect the public from health hazards in drinking and recreational water, in our air, in our communities and at our borders. We work to improve our city with other organisations so our people are able to eat better, keep physically active and avoid harm from alcohol and tobacco. We are involved in alcohol licensing, smokefree environments and support for early childhood education centres. We lead the public health response during emergencies in the region. We are a part of Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora.
