Hurst Manufacturing began as Rock Island Packaging Corporation, known as RIPCO, in 1965. Founder, William Hurst began the company to sub-contract packaging and advertising displays. His vision was to create high quality, reasonably priced products that were delivered on time. RIPCO thrived in the 60s and early 70s, allowing the company to purchase land in Milan, Illinois, and build a 28,500 square foot facility on four acres.
In the 1980s, the industrial contract packaging industry continued to grow and so did RIPCO. The company expanded its existing building in 1981 and finished construction on a second building to house the wood division in 1987. That brought the total company facilities to 170,000 square feet on 13 acres.
In the 2000s, the company focus began to shift to sustainable materials. In 2005 the company created All Corr Specialties to replace wood pallets with lightweight, eco-friendly corrugated pallets. The company purchased Creative Packaging in 2011, and merged all divisions under the new name Hurst Manufacturing in 2012. Continuing the company’s long history of growth, a 27,000 square foot expansion was completed in early 2013.
Today Hurst Manufacturing is run by William’s sons, Todd Hurst and Marc Hurst, who are continuing their father’s mission to make excellent products and provide personal customer service. Hurst Manufacturing produces lightweight corrugated pallets that reduce shipping costs, decrease worker injury and are 100 percent recyclable.
