Piano building meets aerospace engineering Future Piano was founded by pianist CEO Sarah Nicolls to develop the world’s first ever lightweight ‘Standing Grand’ piano. Sarah invented the new piano shape through her unique music-making, playing the strings as well as the keys. She built two early prototypes before seeking out Bristol-based engineers Tim Evans and Chris Vaissiere to produce a truly innovative piano structure concept, making use of advanced lightweight composite materials. After an intensive research and early design phase, supported by an Innovate-UK funded Design Foundations award, Future Piano raised Kickstarter funds to build a prototype with Latvian master piano designer and builder David Klavins.
