We help the veteran get back on his or her feet by getting off the street and into a safe and supportive environment. A veteran normally begins in one of our shelter rooms, while they are going through case management and counseling. Depending on their path, they may need transitional housing to assist them with the next step and we offer that as well. As part of the housing program, we help the veteran in finding long-term permanent housing, whether that is through normal rental channels or through a supportive system sponsored by HUD-VASH or some other. If a veteran needs more time to get back on their feet because they are going to school, obtaining a certification or waiting for that good job, they will have it here. In the future, we are working on a longer-term housing project, that will allow a person or family to transition to a permanent Veterans Village.
The myriad of benefits available through the VA can be difficult to discover and to navigate. We help the veteran get the most of the VA benefit programs that are available to them. They range from:
-Service Connected Disability Claims
-Pension
-VA Health Care
-GI Bill
-Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment
-And More
In addition to VA benefits, there are many programs available for veterans that most veterans do not know even exist – some are State and County related, others are foundation grants and others are coming online daily. We have a coordinator that will work with the individual veteran and help them find out what they are eligible for, help them apply and follow-up to see that they get all they are entitled too. There are too many to mention.
