The Antarctic Institute of Canada is a non-profit Canadian charity organization that exists to support scholarly research and academic writing. The AIC was founded by former Antarctic researcher Austin Mardon in 1985. Its original aim was to lobby for the federal government of Canada to increase the extent of Canadian research in the Antarctic. Today, the AIC supports academic writing, research, and multimedia in many fields, expanding far beyond the organization’s original focus on Antarctica.
