Welcome to the Centre on African Public Spaces (CAPS) - a home and a resource hub for urban practitioners, community groups, and scholars dedicated to connecting, sharing and advancing knowledge, and growing expertise related to African public space.
Initially established by the City of Johannesburg, in response to the 2018 Africities Summit’s call for a regional knowledge sharing platform on public spaces, CAPS has become the first multidisciplinary initiative formed in collaboration with the UN-Habitat Global Public Space Programme and the GIZ Inclusive Violence and Crime Prevention Programme.
MISSION
To connect urban practitioners, policy makers, community groups and scholars to reimagine, advocate for, and create African cities filled with shared public spaces.
VISION
Vibrant, safe, inclusive, and accessible African cities with quality context-sensitive public spaces at the heart of their development.
