PlayBuilders of Hawaiʻi Theater Company is what is known as a community-based, applied, or community-specific theatre. We collaborate with Hawaii’s geographic and demographic communities to write and produce plays based on stories members of those communities share with us. Although there are many companies of this type in the United States and other parts of the world, as far as we know, Playbuilders is Hawaii’s first and only. It is our hope that in some small way, through our efforts and the magic of theatre, friendships will be made, communities will grow stronger, and bridges of communication will be built for the benefit of all who live in Hawaiʻi Nei.
