The I.A.T.S.E., Local 22 Training Department is a non-profit
organization of theater technicians dedicated to establishing more and better
standards of workplace safety, behavior, and technical knowledge through better
training.
We are a division of the Local dedicated to training, through which
we hope to establish more and better standards of workplace safety, behavior, and
technical knowledge. The department has developed over 200 hrs. (over 60 separate
subjects) of classes and has held over 1100 hrs. of classes, with more than 3000 students
attending. After the Local funded us for the first four years, in 2001 we began operation of
the nonprofit Local 22, I.A.T.S.E. Training Fund, a 501(c)(3) corporation set up to continue
our efforts. We receive annual contributions from the Kennedy Center, the Wolftrap
Foundation for the Performing Arts, Fords Theatre, the National Theatre Corporation, and
the Grateful Dead organization. We also receive contributions on a percentage basis from
GLP, the Warner Theater, Strathmore Hall Foundation, and other contracts, as well as the
continuing contribution of the Local. In 2002, we began a partnership with Prince George’s
Community College offering the Theatre & Entertainment Technology Certificate Program,
jointly funded and taught by our two organizations. We are members of PLASA, USITT,
InfoComm, NSC, and ASSE.
