Norfolk Botanical Garden is a 175-acre non-profit museum for plants and our mission is to immerse visitors in a world of beauty, lead through environmental action, and inspire through education and connection to nature. Norfolk Botanical Garden is managed by the Norfolk Botanical Garden, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization supported by donations, membership dues, admissions & program fees.
The Virginia General Assembly designated Norfolk Botanical Garden a State Botanical Garden in 1995 and the organization is also listed as a Virginia Historic Landmark and recorded in the National Register of Historic Places. NBG also has achieved the unique distinction of being one of only 3% of botanical gardens in the country that have achieved the high honor of being accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the highest standard in its industry, and was re-accredited in 2022. In 2023, NBG was voted the 3rd Best Botanical Garden in the country by Fodor’s Travel and named by Simplemost as one of the 12 Magical Christmas Destinations to Add to Your Bucket List. Other locations on this international list include Switzerland, Walt Disney World, Germany, and the North Pole.
