About Badminton Asia Championships The Badminton Asia Championships (formerly known as Asian Badminton Championships until 2006) is a tournament owned by the governing body Badminton Asia to crown the best badminton players in Asia. Started in 1962, the competition has been held annually since 1991, only taking a break in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event rotates between Team, Individual and Mixed team competitions. While these tournaments carry world ranking points required for Olympics qualification, the Team Championships is a qualification tournament for Thomas Cup & Uber Cup. The Mixed Team Championships, meanwhile, is a qualification tournament for Sudirman Cup
