As a Christian food bank, we proudly distribute about 5 million pounds of food each year in the Greater San Antonio area through a network of churches and ministires we refer to as our Ministry Partners. We base our work on the book When Helping Hurts: How To Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting The Poor. Daily Bread focuses on addressing the root cause of poverty- broken relationships. We do this by helping our Ministry Partners help their communities mend their connections with God, other people, self, and the world around them. We do this, part by offering training to our Ministry Partners. Our two most popular trainings are When Helping Hurts and Experiencing God. We empower our Ministry Partners to go beyond addressing the symptoms of poverty, such as hunger, and educate them on how to better support people living in poverty. At Daily Bread, we are not just feeding the poor; we are equiping our Ministry Partners to provide resources that will build up their communities through their relationships with God. It takes the commitment and support of the broad community to provide a sustainable solution to poverty. Feeding the poor will not eliminate the causes of their hunger. Yet, feeding the poor is a strong Christian command that we joyfully follow. Our current budget of less than $1 million is met through 100% philanthropic contributions. As such, Daily Bread is doing God's work through the generous help of our supporters. Our budget includes a distribution of over $10 million in resources, which means that for every $1 that is contributed, we are able to distribute $10 worth of high quality food.
