The purpose of New Haven Pride Center is to provide educational, cultural and social enrichment programming and trauma informed and LGBTQ+ competent services for the LGBTQ+ community of Greater New Haven and Connecticut.
The Center's work focuses on five key areas :
1. Providing case management and support services
The New Haven Pride Center provides LGBTQ+ informed services for the community in a variety of ways. Our case management provides direct support to individuals experiencing crisis, our food and clothing pantries feeds and clothes the community, and our support spaces provide adults, youth, and families with needed relief and connection.
2. Bring people together for shared social experiences
Throughout the year the New Haven Pride Center brings LGBTQ+ individuals together for shared experiences that allow us to bond and create a sense of community. Through social gatherings and drag brunches to wellness events and nature hikes the Center creates space for all.
3. Youth empowerment and education
The New Haven Pride Center firmly believes in investing in the future of our community. Through innovative and holistic activities we uplift LGBTQ+ youth of all ages. Key programs include the Black & Brown Summer Camp, Youth Leadership Institute, and Pride Prom, as well as our monthly socials and support spaces.
4. Arts, culture, and humanities based programming
The New Haven Pride Center is the only organization in Connecticut focused on LGBTQ+ inclusion in arts, culture and humanities programming. From our art exhibitions and performance programs to our panels & converstions series and author talks, the Center shines a spotlight on Connecticut's LGBTQ+ artists and thought leaders.
5. LGBTQ+ Advocacy
The New Haven Pride Center advocates for the LGBTQ+ community daily at the municipal, state, and federal level. Through everything from working to update public policies and local laws, LGBTQ+ sensitivity trainings, and representing the community.
