With around 4,800 students, the Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Dresden - University of Applied Sciences is the second largest university in the state capital. Founded in 1992, it is now one of the top German universities of applied sciences. The more than 40 degree programmes in the fields of civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, economics, geoinformation, agriculture, environment, chemistry and design lead to Bachelor's, Master's and Diplom degrees.
Teaching and research are closely linked at HTW Dresden and are strongly practice-orientated. Students can participate in research projects at an early stage, they benefit from close contacts with industrial partners and also have the opportunity to do a doctorate as part of a co-operative doctoral programme.
Research at HTW Dresden is primarily oriented towards the three interdisciplinary profile lines of securing natural resources, developing sustainable mobility and infrastructure, and designing, networking and digitalising the economy and work. With its application-oriented research, the university is an important partner, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises in Saxony, and is very well networked with the numerous technology and research centres in Dresden as a science location.
