The Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society (RCC) is a center for research and education in the environmental humanities and social sciences based in Munich, Germany. Its wide range of graduate and scholarly programs and commitment to multidisciplinary and international perspectives makes it one of the world’s leading institute’s for studying human–nature intersections. The RCC is part of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich (LMU). It was founded in 2009 as a joint initiative of LMU and the Deutsches Museum and has received core funding as part of the Käte Hamburger Kolleg funding initiative of the German Ministry of Research and Education. The RCC hosts international fellows and visiting scholars from every part of the world. It features the doctoral program Environment and Society (ProEnviron), an environmental studies certificate program (ESCP), and a new master’s program in environment and society with funding through the Volkswagen Foundation’s "University of the Future." More than 300 former fellows of the Carson Center (postdocs and senior scholars from over 60 countries) are members of the RCC’s alumni organization, the Society of Fellows. The RCC publishes several book series, journals, and a blog. Its flagship digital publication platform, www.environmentandsociety.org, has created a unique, interactive, multimedia scholarly gateway to human–environment knowledge and the RCC's latest online publication, 𝘚𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘭 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸 (https://springs-rcc.org/), brings together a huge variety of the different strands of research conducted at the center. Outreach activities include the Green Visions film series as well as virtual exhibitions. The RCC offers weekly public events and has organized more than 150 international workshops and conferences since 2009. The RCC collaborates closely with partner institutions all over the world.
