The ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (ASEAN-IPR) was launched on 18 November 2012 by the ASEAN Leaders, on the sidelines of the 21st ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The ASEAN-IPR is mandated to be an ASEAN institution for research activities on peace, conflict management and conflict resolution. To fulfil its mandates, the Institute functions to undertake research activities, conduct capacity building, put together a pool of expertise in support of ASEAN bodies, as well as carry out networking and dissemination of information. According to its Terms of Reference, the ASEAN-IPR is an entity associated with ASEAN, listed in Annex 2 of the ASEAN Charter.
