Genesee County is located in western New York State. The County is 550 square miles with a population of 60,370 as of the 2000 census. The County is divided into thirteen towns, six villages and the City of Batavia, the county seat. Genesee County is located midway between the major urban areas of Rochester and Buffalo. Except for Batavia, the County is quite rural.
Genesee County is a non-chartered county and the government consists of the elected nine-member Genesee County Legislature and the appointed County Manager who is responsible for overseeing and coordinating 26 County Departments.
