Equinox Broadcasting was formed im 1993 by George Hawras. By 1995, the acquisition of an FCC construction permit to build a radio station on 100.5 in the Binghamton NY kicked off the companies journey into broadcast ownership. WXEJ-FM had to be built fom the ground up on a 100.5 FM. The calls letters were changed to WCDW-FM.
Beginning with a small staff, (CooL100) now CooL106.7, quickly gained a loyal listening audience. This allowed Equinox to grow and eventually expand to 5 FM stations and over 20 FM translators (repeaters), with a broadcast reach that spaned the entire NY Southern Tier and the Northern Tier of PA, including the Binghamton, Elmira/Corning, Bath, and Hornell markets.
As of today, the western markets were sold to a larger firm, with Equinox Broadcasting concentrating its experience on the Binghamton NY market with many of the area's best and most seasoned broadcast professionals. In Binghamton Equinox Broadcasting stands alone as the last and only locally owned media group in the Southern Tier with headquarters at 101 Main St. in Johnson City, NY.
