Forest Carbon is the UK's leading developer of woodland carbon capture projects audited under the government's Woodland Carbon Code. Between 2006 and 2022 we have supported the planted over 12.5 million trees in the UK, creating over 225 new woodlands that will capture in excess of 2.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. These woodlands were planted on behalf of companies and individuals wanting to capture the unavoidable carbon dioxide emissions that arise from their activities. As well as sinking CO2 they also act as public recreational spaces, wildlife corridors, biodiversity enhancers, landscape improvers, flood reducers, and water pollution filters. We have created woodlands ranging from 5 acres to 500, for partners from sole trader to global tech giants Microsoft. The Woodland Carbon Code was launched by the UK government in July 2011, with the first ever certification of a carbon woodland achieved by Forest Carbon in November 2011, and the first ever project re-certification achieved in 2016. We were also the first business to offer UK woodland creation carbon credits via the Markit Environmental Registry in July 2013, and still account for the significant majority of all WCC credits transacted. The Woodland Carbon Code delivers externally verified projects, certified by UKAS accredited bodies to ISO standards, that offer tangible social and environmental benefits; it is the only standard of its kind in the UK. In 2012 Forest Carbon also developed the UK's first peat carbon project, on behalf of ICAP. In 2017 became the first developer to certify a project under the recently launched Peatland Code, which we were integral to creating.
