Founded in 1910, the Institut français du Royaume-Uni exists to promote French language and culture and to encourage cross-cultural exchange.
Comprising a language centre, a cinema (Ciné Lumière), a multi-media library (La Médiathèque) a children's library (Bibliothèque Quentin Blake) and a cafe-restaurant, it offers a wide range of events and activities, from film screenings and festivals to concerts and talks and welcomes thousands of people each year.
The Institut also collaborates with schools in the UK on educational cooperation programmes to promote French language learning. In addition, it presents and supports external events, in collaboration with British partners, particularly in the visual and performing arts and develops Franco-British academic cooperation projects.
