THE ARIZONA FAIR HOUSING CENTER AT A GLANCE
In Arizona, Native American, Black, Asian and Latino populations have continued to experience discrimination in housing over the last thirty years. Particularly with the tripling of Latino population, evidence of housing discrimination has become more focused on national origin. According to US Census records, Arizona’s Latino population increased to 30 percent of the overall population between 2000-2012.
AFHC formed three decades ago in response to the need for fair housing enforcement and housing education for protected classes who have been highly segregated and underserved by housing providers. Since that time, AFHC has helped more than 9,000 Arizona residents combat illegal and discriminatory housing practices.
