CELIM is an Italian NGO based in Milan, founded in 1954. It works on development cooperation projects around the world, with a 90% efficiency.
It has operated in Lebanon since 2013 with projects aimed at rural development and environmental protection. Currently, CELIM Lebanon works on the following projects:
1. 'WASTE or RESOURCE? - Environmental and social responsibility of municipalities and companies", funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and implemented by CELIM as the lead, with Cesvi, Oxfam Italy, Oxfam GB, Engineering without Borders Milan, the Polytechnic University of Milan and the Municipalities of Hasbaya and Chebaa.
The project aims to reduce the negative impact on health and the environment of the pollution and contamination of air, soil, and water. The project focuses on the development of solid waste management plans in 12 municipalities of the Hasbaya district, by implementing separate waste collection systems and constructing facilities for the proper treatment and disposal of the waste. The project also aims to promote sustainable production and consumption, as well as the creation of decent jobs for 20 MSMEs in the waste value chains.
2. 'DOT-OLIVE: Olive growers and cooperatives in Hasbaya for a quality label' funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), coordinated by CELIM in cooperation with Engineering without Borders Milan and Chico Mendes Onlus, El Khalil Foundation and the Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute. Although this project has successfully come to an end, CELIM continues to follow its development together with EKF by remaining active in the field.
The objective was to support the Mount Hermon agricultural consortium in the Hasbaya district in the structuring of a sustainable olive oil supply chain, enabling the achievement of production efficiency for 587 olive growers in terms of quality/cost ratio and reducing its environmental impact, using vegetation water as fertiliser.
