plants & machines. Designing 21st Century tools for food production.
Starting in 2013 with the vision to bring food production back into people's homes, plants & machines develops fully automated greenhouses for indoor gardening and urban farming applications. Therefor they combine modern control technology, innovative growing methods and machine learning to a robotic ecosystem.
Robotic ecosystems grow food regardless of location and seasonal climatic conditions, while adapting environmental conditions to optimally mimic the needs of any crop. It takes care of irrigation, humidity, Light spectrum, temperature and many other important parameters for plants and organisms. The product comes with a user-friendly, globally accessible interface to monitor, control and manage climate conditions, resources and crop. To optimise the yields of each costumer plants & machines collects the data of every growing process and applies big data technologies.
Currently plants & machines is part of the Techfounders (www.techfounders.com) and climate KIC (www.climate-kic.org) Accelerator to prepare their market entry. Followed by the programs they will offer a first product: A DIY Kit for gardening hobbyist and tinkerer who want to produce food in their own living space. The customers will be able to control and monitor their system at anytime via smartphone, tablet or PC. An additional gardening community offers gardeners to connect and collaborate with each other. In a second step plants & machines will launch a design version of their robotic ecosystem for a broader target group including restaurants and offices. Subsequently plants & machines will scale the technology for B2B applications - especially for urban farmers and retailers wanting to grow food within their facilities and on rooftops.
