Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM)at Riverwood is the City’s premier visual arts organization providing affordable arts programs for the community. Our mission is to enrich community life by fostering an appreciation of the arts through active involvement in a variety of creative experiences. Our vision is to be a catalyst where art inspires and enriches the community. VAM is located in Riverwood in a purpose-built Visual Arts Centre. The facility is surrounded by 150 acres of urban wilderness located off Burnhamthorpe Road West at the Credit River. The one-story Art Centre houses administrative offices, five large classroom studios, members’ exhibition space and additional studio, print-making and pottery facilities in the neighbouring MacEwan House. Year-round instruction at the Art Centre includes over 100 adult classes and 80 children’s courses offered by professional instructors in acrylic, watercolour, oil, pastel, pencil, mixed-media, clay, photography, Ikebana, and other mediums. VAM’s programming expands beyond the walls of the Art Centre to curriculum delivered in the schools. This includes: ArtReach – a curriculum-based art program held in the schools or in our Centre which reaches 8,000 children annually.
