Shirak State University (ShSU), formerly known as Gyumri State Pedagogical Institute, is a public university located in the Shirak region of Armenia. ShSU was established in 1934 with the goal of providing secondary education in the historic northern Armenian city of Gyumri. It has succeeded in this goal for over 85 years, with 2500 students currently enrolled and over 20000 alumni.
In 2014, ShSU passed the accreditation process and recieved a certificate of accreditation.
In 2016, the institute was reorganized as Shirak State University.
ShSU staff consists of 250 permanent lecturers that are at the top of their respective fields, including:
- 1 corresponding member of the National Academy of Science in Armenia
- 12 doctors and professors
- 100 associate professors
- 5 honored workers of sports and arts
