History
THE BLUE MANSION was built before the turn of the 20th century by Cheong Fatt Tze, “The Last Mandarin and The First Capitalist of China”, a successful businessman, diplomat and minister who came to Penang in search of fortune. He found it for The Blue Mansion reflects the opulence of the tycoon's lavish affluence.
Built with all the luxuries and decadence available at that time, THE BLUE MANSION is home to Victorian stained glass windows, Staffordshire floor tiles, Scottish cast iron columns and balusters, splendidly carved Szechuan screens, solid Chinese timber doors, magnificent Teochew 'chien nien' (porcelain cut and paste shard works) and 'trompe l'oeil' timber beams.
