The mission of English for New Bostonians and the English Works Campaign is to increase access to high-quality ESOL classes for adults in Boston and across the Commonwealth.
Our Vision: Boston will be a welcoming city that offers immigrants the opportunity to learn English and integrate into all aspects of civic life. Through significant and coordinated investments by the public, private and non-profit sectors, adult English language learners will be able to learn English at home, at work, or in the community and fulfill their dreams and roles as citizens, community members, parents, workers, and entrepreneurs. The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) system will offer flexibility; will take into account differing learning styles, formal education levels, and student goals; and will include evaluation and accountability measures to ensure program quality.
Our Approach: English for New Bostonians (ENB) is a public-private-community collaboration addressing the urgent need for increased English language learning opportunities for adult immigrants in Boston. Comprised of the City of Boston, foundations, corporations, non-profits, and community organizations, ENB works to support high-quality, accessible ESOL programs; to expand Boston’s capacity to serve English language learners; to test new strategies to reach learners at home, in the community, and at work; to encourage new investment by diverse stakeholders; to heighten awareness about the importance of adult English language learning; and to support the development of a coordinated ESOL system in Boston.
