Muckgers is an alternate student news platform started by former employees of the Daily Targum. It is an experiment in student news distribution that is purely digital and purely student run: no board of trustees, no term bill fee. It is a organization that abandons the well-established and now turbulant field of print media to the newly-established and more turbulant field of digital media. It is a collective of driven, curious students who have both reason and place for their energy.
At Muckgers we aim to provide investigative, contextual, explanatory journalism for issues effecting Rutgers students. In other words from who, what, when, where, how, and why; we will focus on the how and why.
Muckgers uses Google Analytics and WordPress Jetpack to track how visitors come to and use this site. We use this data to find what articles are popular and how users come to this site.
In June 2013, Muckger’s closed its Kickstarter raising %115 of its $450 goal.
On September 1, 2013 the Muckgers website officially launched.
In October 2013, Muckgers was awarded a $4,000 micro-grant by NJ News Commons and the New Jersey Recovery Fund.
