The Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA) was founded in 2013 as the first bilateral young academy worldwide. AGYA promotes research cooperation among outstanding researchers from all disciplines who are affiliated with a research institution in Germany and 22 Arab countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen. The currently 64 members – in equal number Arab and German scholars – are excellent early-career researchers (3-10 years after Ph.D.) from all fields of the Natural Sciences, Life Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, Technical Sciences, and the Arts. AGYA offers its members the unique opportunity to develop and implement their ideas, visions, and projects within the framework of Arab-German research cooperation. AGYA members share an interdisciplinary approach to scientific enquiry, with the intention to develop innovative solutions for resilient societies. The AGYA membership is granted for up to five years, followed by a lifelong membership in the AGYA Alumni Network. AGYA is based at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW) in Germany and at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) in Egypt. Furthermore, regional coordinators in Tunis (Tunisia) and Beirut (Lebanon) strengthen AGYA's network in the Arab countries. AGYA is funded by the German Federal of Education and Research (BMBF) and several Arab and German cooperation partners.
