The Asia-Europe Meeting (#ASEM) is an intergovernmental forum for dialogue and cooperation established in 1996 to deepen relations between Asia and Europe, which addresses political, economic and socio-cultural issues of common concern.
ASEM brings together 53 Partners: Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, the Lao PDR, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mongolia, Myanmar, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, the Russian Federation, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Viet Nam, the European Union and the ASEAN Secretariat.
ASEM is not an international organisation and has no Secretariat. Foreign Ministers and their Senior Officials have an overall coordinating role within the ASEM Process. They are assisted in this by an informal group of coordinators: 2 from the Asian side (1 representing ASEAN and 1 the Non-ASEAN countries) and 2 from the European side (the European External Action Services (EEAS) as a permanent coordinator and the half-yearly rotating European Union Presidency).
Located in Singapore, the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) administers and manages the ASEM InfoBoard (AIB) on behalf of the 53 ASEM Partners. This was created and maintained with the financial support of the European Union. Its contents are the sole responsibility of and do not necessarily reflect the views of the European Union.
