Born and raised in Northern California, Schuyler Crawford is happy to now call Portland home. A 2006 graduate of California College of the Arts (formally Arts and Crafts), he was able to hone his craft with some of the most forward-thinking design educators. Much of Crawford’s work focuses on client collaboration by including them in the design process, listening to their needs and creating intelligent solutions. He believes that outstanding design results from effective idea communication, understanding and respecting the ideas of others. With an emphasis on process, he embeds each project with a deep narrative and attention to craft, often using hand-lettering, custom type and designing elements by hand. His clients include KEEN Footwear, Powder Magazine, Mollusk, Adidas, Sage Fly Fishing, Locally Grown, G3, Save The Waves, Redington Fly Tackle & Apparel, Lumen Wines, Nuclear Wine Co., Transcendence Wines, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Transphorm (Google Venture Company) and Olive Street Media. When he’s not in the studio, Sky can be found telemarking on Mount Hood or surfing the hidden gems along the Pacific Northwest coast. As a typophile geek, he has a soft spot for vintage letterpresses that are in need of a pick me up. Free surf lessons for anyone willing to sort his piles of pied type.
