Company Details
Te Kāhui Waihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) represents more than 90 percent of the country's Registered Architects and hundreds of architectural graduates and students. The Institute has eight branches which cover the whole country. Branch activities are organised by an elected Council, headed by a President serving a two-year term, and are supported by a national office. Since its foundation in 1905, the Institute has promoted high standards of building design and performance. It produces material essential to architects' work, runs programmes to educate its members and other industry professionals and advocates for members and for the wider cause of architecture. It fosters a culture of collegiality and civic-mindedness among its members, and supports initiatives that will improve the environment of New Zealand's cities and towns. Awards: With the support of Resene, the Institute runs the New Zealand Architecture Awards, a rigourous, peer-reviewed programme that sets the benchmark for New Zealand architecture. Continuing Professional Development: Seminars, presentations, workshops and other events that enable architects to continually upgrade their skills and maintain registration. Te Kawenata o Rata: A treaty of partnership with Ngā Aho, the organisation of Māori design practitioners, which enables future joint strategies and action plans to be developed between the two organisations. in:situ: The Institute's biennial conference sees some of the world's best architects share their knowledge in New Zealand. Friends of Architecture, a free programme tailored to those interested in finding out more about New Zealand's architecture and architects. The Diversity Agenda: A partnership with Engineering New Zealand and ACENZ that aims to make New Zealand’s engineering and architecture firms more equitable. Festival of Architecture: An annual event with a nationwide programme of events, including presentations, tours and exhibitions.
