Drop of Water Ethiopia is a youth-initiated non-profit organization established in 2009 as a result of an unexpected interaction they had with A-list celebrity actor Matt Damon in Tigray, Ethiopia.
After becoming aware of the water crisis in Ethiopia, they took responsibility to serve their communities and established Drop of Water.
Although Ethiopia has shown remarkable improvement and progress in providing access to water and sanitation services, access and equity remain less and inadequate.
According to the Joint Monitoring Program 2020 report, in Ethiopia, 50% of the population does not have access to clean water, and only 9% and 8% of the people are using safely managed sanitation and hygiene practices, respectively.
Due to this water scarcity, day-to-day activities such as drinking water and cooking are a headache for communities living in rural Ethiopia.
By taking this into account we have made it our MISSION to:
Provide access to safe drinking water and enable rural communities in Ethiopia to adopt proper hygiene and sanitation practices
With passion and compassion being our core values:
We have served over 50,000 people and 100+ communities across 6 regions in rural Ethiopia. Drop of water has built 100+ clean water supply development projects since 2009.
Vision
We will keep going until 100% access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and proper hygiene practices are widely applied in all parts of Ethiopia.
