The AICS regional office in Nairobi oversees a vast area including Central, Eastern, and Southern Africa. Alongside Kenya and Somalia, which are top-priority countries for the Agency, the office has also taken responsibility for Tanzania and Uganda since 2016, and Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Rwanda since 2018.
In these nations, development cooperation goals and priorities are determined by the low levels of human development and distributional imbalances, as well as the recurring climate shocks, food security, social services, and health concerns. This complexity necessitates a concentrated effort on two levels: firstly, building economic opportunities for training, job creation (with a focus on young people and women) and supporting entrepreneurship, and secondly, improving food and nutrition security, strengthening basic health and education services, and protecting the most vulnerable individuals in the population.
