Historical Background:
The Middle East News Agency was established on 15 December 1955.
MENA is now one of strongest regional news agencies and the biggest Arab and African agency as it rated 11th on the list of international news agencies (according to UNESCO's report).
At the beginning, MENA's service was available in Arabic only with a daily transmission estimated in dozens. Yet, MENA subscribers now receive an average of 1000 items daily, with an around-the-clock transmission of quarter of a million words in Arabic, English and French, covering all parts of the world, a matter which prompted the UNESCO to place MENA 11th on the list of world agencies.
MENA transmits now 250,000 words round the clock in Arabic, English, and French and its news services reach the four corners of the world.
